For twenty years, the Buffalo
International Jewish Film Festival has
presented the local community with the best in Jewish content films.
The continuity and high quality of the Film Festival is the result
of many generous donors and numerous volunteers working to make
the program a success. Entering our third decade, we reflect with
satisfaction and pride on our accomplishments and thank our supporters
and ticket buyers.
The overall quality of this year’s films is the best ever.
The list of
awards given to the films and their directors is truly impressive.
Whether
originating from the Czech Republic, Italy, France, Belgium, the
U.S., or Israel, the films are characterized not only by perceptions
of Judaism but also by universal themes of self-discovery, tragedy,
friendship, courage, and love. Moreover, you will be delighted and
enthralled by the many engaging characters you will meet on the
screen.
The films
are imaginative, dramatic, and touching. A dyslexic Israeli
boy comes of age. Brothers survive the Holocaust due to a Polish
peasant. Swim club members return to Vienna after 65 years. Three
generations of Belgian Jews struggle to define themselves. An amnesiac
elderly man inspires an Italian housewife. From such plot lines
do marvelous films develop.
Documentaries
hold a conspicuous place in the film schedule. They
will take you on unusual journeys into hidden corners of Jewish
life and culture.
Come participate
in the cinematic event of the summer!
